It’s December in Paris. It’s cold, it’s possibly rainy, one could even say it risks feeling dreary. But it’s Paris, which means there’s still magic around most corners, and the holiday lights are up!
We’re going to share a few December highlights with you today - there are numerous live shows, from classical music in churches, to parks and gardens lit up. There are small Christmas markets around town, and lots of places to eat Oysters. Below, we’ve rounded up the top things to do in Paris in December to help you plan your magical winter visit.

1. See an Immersive Holiday Performance at Le Bon Marché
Through Dec 31st 2025
If you want to keep it warm and festival, book tickets to see a show. Le Bon Marché is known for its immersive and creative performances, and this year is no exception with BABEL. Ten dancers and circus performers bring Mourad Merzouki’s choreography to life in this incredible performance in the heart of the Bon Marché. This makes it an ideal activity if you're looking for something festive yet sheltered from the cold. It’s also one of the more unique Parisian holiday experiences since it blends performance with the impressive architecture of a historic department store. This performance has been on for a few months, and will close on December 31st, 2025.

2. Explore “Sargent: Dazzling Paris” at the Musée d’Orsay
Through January 11, 2026
This fall, the Musée d’Orsay shines a long-overdue spotlight on John Singer Sargent, the American master who found his artistic footing in Paris. This exposition, titled: Sargent. Dazzling Paris boasts more than 90 works retracing Sargent's work in Paris in the late 19th century. Don’t miss the acclaimed Madame X (a sensational portrait that scandalized the 1884 Salon!), which is on loan from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Visiting this exhibition is especially lovely in December since the museum offers a warm refuge from winter weather.

3. Experience a Winter Light Show at Parc Floral
Through 11 janvier 2026
Paris has a few spectacular light shows in action this time of year, but we want to recommend one in the 12e arrondissement, that’s sure to enchant people of all ages. In Paris Parc Florale, a botanical garden, you’ll stroll through a luminous odyssey with themes from the North Pole and Japanese culture. You’ll see giant mushrooms and huge polar bears and over 1000 lanterns. It’s truly a magical experience.
Because it’s outdoors, it’s also a great way to enjoy Paris beyond the usual museums and monuments. It feels like stepping into a fairytale, making it perfect for families and couples.

4. Visit a Traditional Swiss Christmas Market in Paris
20 November - 28 December 2025
And not just any Christmas market - a true Swiss Christmas market in Paris’ 19e arrondissement. Indulge in raclette or fondue, and spiced mulled wine. Do your holiday shopping at the boutique stands scattered throughout, or check out their list of workshops and concerts. For more information, click here. This market is bound to be a bit less touristy than the ones in central Paris, which means you’ll enjoy a more authentic and relaxed atmosphere. It’s also one of the best places in the city to taste Alpine specialties without leaving Paris.
While you're in the 19e, why not grab a coffee at Kaffee 19? Or perhaps a beer at Paname Brewing Co? Maybe a huge plate of meat at Le Bastringue? The options are endless in this fantastic arrondissement. For all of our recs (and much, much more) Grab our Guide.
5. Go Ice Skating Under the Glass Dome of the Grand Palais
14 December 2025 - 7 January 2026
There’s no better way to soak in the festive atmosphere than going ice skating in the heart of Paris. Under a domed glass ceiling no less. No we’re not kidding. The Grand Palais des Glaces returns mid-December to early January. This giant indoor rink transforms the historic space into a shimmering winter playground - it’s a must-visit if you enjoy skating, huge spaces, and tons of lights. You won’t find anything like it elsewhere in Paris.
6. Celebrate New Year’s Eve in the 10e Arrondissement
Ring in the New Year in the 10e. Abricot Bar will be celebrating in style with their vegan nibbles and craft cocktails. Get as far away from the Champs-Elysées and the Eiffel Tower as you can (we promise, they’re not worth it, they’re just a sea of phone screens), and ring in the new year in this Woman-owned bar, with a great party and a fantastic atmosphere.
The 10e has become one of Paris’s liveliest neighborhoods for nightlife, especially for locals who want to avoid tourist crowds. Abricot Bar is the intimate, stylish place to toast to the year ahead.
Whatever your interests may be, December in Paris offers a unique blend of coziness and culture that means there’s truly something for everyone. And the hot wine, oh, the hot wine! If you’re planning a winter trip, these experiences will help you make the most of the season.
